This year’s MTV VMAs are being hosted live from New Jersey’s Prudential Center tomorrow evening (8 p.m. ET), the first time in its brand new location. Known as music’s biggest night, the 36th annual awards ceremony, which will be hosted by comedian Sebastian Maniscalco, is set to feature a celeb-filled roster of performers, including Vogue cover girl Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, Lizzo, Lil Nas X, and many more; Missy Elliott will also be awarded the 2019 Video Vanguard Award.

With the VMAs’s history of memorable—and oftentimes shocking or controversial—moments and performances, it’s bound to be the topic of discussion this week. Plus, expect tons of post-show Internet memes, too. No cable? No problem! Below, see how you can tune in.

The 2019 VMAs shouldn’t be any different.

How to Watch

The 36th annual MTV Video Music Awards will broadcast live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on Monday, Aug. 26, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Fans can tune in on MTV or live-stream it from MTV Live or on Twitter through the show’s MTV VMA Stan Cam, with the latter providing a more interactive viewing experience of the awards show.

In addition, a preshow featuring performances by Ava Max, CNCO and Megan Thee Stallion will air starting at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

Who to Watch

Comedian and actor Sebastian Maniscalco will host the 36th annual awards show, following 2018’s hostless ceremony. The Green Book and The Irishman actor made the announcement during a June episode of The Tonight Show. 

The show’s roster of presenters includes Lenny Kravitz, John Travolta, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jonathan Van Ness, Keke Palmer, Lindsey Vonn, Rick Ross, Salt-N-Pepa and Ice-T. In addition, The Sopranos stars Drea De Matteo, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Vincent Pastore are reuniting to present.

U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team members Alex Morgan, Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris; Bebe Rexha; Megan Thee Stallion; French Montana; Hailee Steinfeld; P.K. Subban; and Victor Cruz will also present during Monday night’s ceremony. 

Handfuls of the show’s nominees are also slated to perform. Nominees Bad Bunny, J Balvin and Rosalía will perform their hits, and Lizzo will make her VMA debut. 

Also bringing their musical chops to the VMA stage will be Lil Nas X and “Seniorita” singers Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes. 

Ten years after their last VMA performance, the Jonas Brothers will play a special remote performance outside of the Prudential Center and along the New Jersey skyline. 

Additionally, Taylor Swift, who has collected 10 VMA nominations, will open the show and sing some of her hits from her latest album Lover. The Monday night performance will mark her first time hitting the VMA stage since 2015. 

Missy Elliot, the 2019 recipient of the award show’s Video Vanguard Award, will also perform. The special performance will be Elliot’s first time back at on the VMA stage in 13 years.  

Receiving the #VMAs first-ever MTV Fashion Trailblazer Award will be Marc Jacobs. The designer has dressed scores of stars and musicians, including Cher, Missy Elliott, Lady Gaga, Cardi B and Nicki Minaj. 


Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift are neck-and-neck for most nominations, with 10 noms each in categories including video of the year, song of the year and best pop video. Trailing behind the singers is newcomer Billie Eilish with a total of nine nominations and Lil Nas X with eight nods. 

Also raking in multiple nominations are Halsey with six, Mendes with five and Cabello, Cardi B, J Balvin, Jonas Brothers and BTS nabbing four each.

MTV revealed its nominees via the VMA chatbot, which provided fans with a sneak peek of nominations list. Voting closed on Aug. 15.

The show will kick off at 8:00 p.m. ET on Sunday and will be hosted by Insecure actress Regina Hall. Meek Mill, Lil Baby, H.E.R., Lizzo, Fantasia, DaBaby, Jeremih, Kirk Franklin, Erica Campbell, Kelly Price and Jonathan McReynolds will also be performing at this year’s awards.

The (just-indicted) Cardi B is the one to beat at Sunday’s 2019 BET Awards, at 8 p.m. ET on the network. With seven nominations in tow — including best female hip-hop artist, which she won last year — she has to defend her title from competition including new (Lizzo and Megan Thee Stallion) and old (Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma). Deceased rapper Nipsey Hussle is also up for a posthumous award, snagging a best male hip-hop artist nod. Those in the running also include J. Cole, Travis Scott, Meek Mill, 21 Savage and Drake, the latter of whom has the second-most nominations with five.

Per tradition, the Met Gala — alternately known as the Costume Institute Benefit — will be taking place on the first Monday of May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Lady Gaga and Harry Styles will be co-hosting the gala, which has pivoted fully secular from 2019’s Catholic-themed “Heavenly Bodies” to this year’s: “Camp.”

Sure, stars have been sporting campy looks at the bash for years, but this year, it’s the official dress code.

The event is invite-only, but Met members can visit the “Days for Camp: Notes on Fashion” exhibit beginning Tuesday at 10 a.m. The general public is invited starting Thursday at 1000 Fifth Ave.

What time does it start?

Pre-show programming begins at 5 p.m. EST on Monday, May 6, but celebrities tend to arrive on the red carpet closer to 7 p.m.

Not all of the bash will be televised, but E!’s “Live From the Red Carpet,” will broadcast four hours of star-spangled programming. Watch on Hulu Live TV if you don’t have a TV.

What is ‘Camp’?

Inspired by cultural critic Susan Sontag’s Oscar Wilde-dedicated.

“Camp has deep historical precedent,” a narrator says in the Met’s video on the concept.” says the narrator, referencing both a line from Sontag’s essay and how Anna Wintour, who’s been overseeing the event since 1995. Has described her outfit this year.
