On Saturday when the South Sydney Rabbitohs take on the Canberra Raiders, there will a distinctly English flavour to the clash. Raiders Rabbitohs Live Stream.

For the first time in NRL history, six British imports will be on the field at the same time at GIO Stadium.

Souths have long hoarded an English contingent with Sam Burgess blazing the trail for twin brothers George and Tom to follow.

Canberra’s foray into the overseas transfer market has been more gradual, first picking up captain Josh Hodgson, then back-rower Elliot Whitehead and this summer Ryan Sutton and John Bateman.

Bateman, however, has returned to Blighty as he recovers from an eye injury.

“It’s a pity John’s not playing,” said Tom Burgess. “When he signed for Canberra, I was looking forward to the fixture. “I’ve known John for years, he came through Bradford as a young lad. He’s just a great bloke.”

All those on show, except Sutton, have been capped by the national side, and the versatile forward will be hoping to press his claims for an international jersey in front of Bunnies and England head coach Wayne Bennett.

The influence of Bennett is something Hodgson is all too wary of as Canberra aim to bounce back from last week’s narrow loss to the Roosters.

“He (Bennett) knows how to get teams going and how to get you up for games,” Hodgson said.

“His man management skills was the biggest thing I took out, just how on a personal level he can read you to a tee and really get you motivated to want to play for him.

“When you’ve got somebody like that it has a massive influence on you as a player and the team.

“It certainly looks like that’s how (Souths) are playing because they’re turning up for each other all the time and it’s kind of a similar story of what we’ve been working on this year.”
